Sandbag Memories

Inspired by a childhood game where upon catching the sandbag, participants would freeze where they stood, as if the sandbag contained the power to hold a moment still. Inflatable packing, often used to hold valuables in place during transportation, serves a similar function of holding an item still.

This project is both an installation of memory objects and a process. Once inflated, the objects are stored hanging, where the container slowly deflates. It speaks to the wish to hold onto our memories, and the reluctance to let them go, but ultimately, just like the air that always finds a way to seep out of the inflatable structure, memories too will fade.

Sealed polythene cubes containing memorabilia deteriorating over time.
